The Perks of Being a HarperCollins Editor

Ever since Harper SVP and Executive Editor David Hirshey scored his first competitive goal at the age of six, he has dreamed of winning a gold medal for soccer in the Olympics.

Last Friday at ESPN headquarters in Bristol, Connecticut, his moment finally arrived. Sort of. As a reward for accompanying his author Hope Solo on a publicity blitz for Solo: A Memoir of Hope, David got to wear the U.S. national team goalkeeper’s precious bauble.

Was it all he fantasized about?

"Actually it’s heavier than I’d imagined," David said. "And I’m a guy who normally wears a lot of bling." As for Hope Solo’s memoir, it too had a golden week, debuting this coming Sunday at #3 on the New York Times bestseller list.
